Cassper Nyovest tells Phumlani S Langa that he is training hard for the match, and celebrity boxing is as safe as the pro version of the sport.
Rapper Cassper Nyovest is best known for his entertaining antics, whether he be in a twar with his old rival AKA or stomping out the career of an aspiring podcaster with his fists – but he also makes music on the side. This man has some idea of how to keep the mob engaged.
It was with this in mind that he began to dabble in the world of boxing. With the second instalment of his Celeb City boxing event, Cassper will take on Priddy Ugly in the ring.
“A rematch with Naak[MusiQ] is what we wanted. It was a fight we were very keen for but, after discussions and after hearing their demands, Naak decided to step out and forfeit the belt. He didn’t want to fight.”
Boxing was something Cassper picked up a few years ago in preparation to fight AKA, who, Cassper says, later declined to fight.

Cassper decided to lend his star power to rejuvenating the sport, as his event also boasts a few undercard matches.
But the question on everyone’s mind is: Why Priddy Ugly?
“Well, he asked for the fight and wanted to fight. A lot of guys will tweet and talk and make excuses, finding things in the contract not to fight.”
He cites his two longest adversaries, AKA and DJ Prince Kaybee, as being guilty of this.

Now, the weight difference between Cassper and Priddy Ugly is rather large.
When last we spoke with Priddy Ugly, he said there was a discrepancy of about 32kg between the two and that Cassper was aiming to land on an agreed catch weight, which he has been finding difficult to do.
Cassper explains: “I’m a few kilos off so, in the next couple of days, I’ll be working hard to drop. It’s really about more cardio and less food. I’ve been running, hitting the pads and shadow boxing every day, building the lungs and the legs.”

Images of him training with Mamelodi Sundowns football club surfaced yesterday. The rapper hopes this will add to his efforts to drop some weight before Saturday.
The pair of rappers/fighters will be going through medical checks to see if they are healthy enough to fight. This is handled by Boxing South Africa, which regulates the size of the gloves and the like.
He says, as this will be the second time they’re hosting this event, it will be better than last time.
Celeb City will be taking place at the Sun Bet Arena, in Pretoria this coming Saturday.
